FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT HYPNOSIS We ship all orders within 3 business days. US orders should receive their package within 5 days of purchase. International orders may take 2 weeks. Self-hypnosis feels very much like when you wake up in the morning and hit the snooze button. You are not entirely awake nor are you completely asleep. A state of hypnosis is achieved more often than you might think. We experience some degree of hypnosis on long trips in the car, while watching television or engaging in tasks that involve many repetitions (assembly line work, repetitive computer work, listening to repetitive music, etc.) Under hypnosis, a subject may also feel a very pleasant tingling sensation in the arms and legs. Many times this altered state is accompanied by a slight twitch in your limbs as your nervous system shifts into deep relaxation and you begin breathing from the abdomen (also called parasympathetic breathing). Almost anyone can be hypnotized. The only people who cannot be hypnotized are those with an exceptionally low IQ, those with a psychotic process (thought disorder) and those who do not wish to be hypnotized. The ability to be hypnotized is often considered a sign of intelligence. Many brilliant inventors, authors and scientists such as Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein used various self-hypnosis techniques for problem solving and creativity. This powerful "in-between" state is key in the creative process. Yes, one test that many hypnotherapists give there clients before undergoing hypnotherapy is the "lemon test." You'll like this. Relax for a moment and imagine holding a lemon in your hand. Now, imagine the porous texture and the bright yellow color. Now imagine taking a common kitchen knife and cutting the lemon into neat little slices. Now, imagine placing it under your nose and smelling the lemony scent. Then you simply won't be hypnotized. Self-hypnosis requires cooperation from both the subject and the hypnotist. A person cannot go under hypnosis thinking "I'll bet he can't hypnotize me" or "I know this won't work." Attitude and trust are very important in traditional hypnosis (person to person) and self-hypnosis (meditation and audio recordings). To be hypnotized, the subject has only to do 3 things: focus on the words of the hypnotist, use their imagination and be willing to be hypnotized. Positive affirmations are key in personal growth and self-improvement. Every day, we are flooded with negative affirmations from people, television, radio, magazines and virtually every form of media. During our lifetime, our subconscious mind has recorded every single negative thing we've ever heard. That is, every time a person told us that we were ugly or stupid or clumsy, our subconscious mind remembered even though we may not recall every instance. Every time we saw a television show where the characters tried to succeed at something and failed on every episode, our subconscious mind recorded it. No. The Council of Mental Health of the American Medical Association approved hypnosis in 1958 as a safe and effective means of behavioral therapy with no harmful side effects.
